One-Third of the School Disappears

Today marks the 77nd anniversary of Executive Order No. 9066 in which the United States president authorized the forced removal of people with Japanese ancestry from their homes and businesses and into internment camps. For the Broadway High School, this mean the disappearance of a third of the school.

Signs of the incarceration exist throughout the BHSA collections, including oral histories, testimonials, donated books, and this donated War Relocation Authority letter.

War Relocation Authority letter to a BHS friend of an incarcerated former BHS classmate asking for a statement of the latter's "Americanization."
