Deeds of Gift

Writer: K. WhitneyK. Whitney

Since we've established that BHSA is--and will continue to be--recognized as the owner of their archives by the major stakeholders, we want to be sure that we have instruments in place to protect that ownership. Having these forms available on the BHSA website (when it exists) and accessible to stakeholders makes it easy for donors to be clear about who is getting the donated artifact.

Now, none of us on our capstone team practices law, so don't take any of what we say as legal advice. We simply want to share where we got our starting documents.

As is often the case, the Society of American Archivists has great resources on the topic. On their Guide to Deeds of Gift page, the SAA explains the necessity and sections of the common use of a Deed of Gift form (CC by 4.0).
