The Whims were Broadway High School's student run newspaper. There were a few from 1897, but they didn't start coming out consistently in 1900 and stopped in 1918. After 1921, the Whims became known as The Broadway Whims until 1946 when the school closed down. Then in 1947 the Alumni Association was starting up and they started the alumni publications of The Broadway Whims, which then became The Broadway Alumni Whims around the1950s.
I accidentally got the job of inventorying, sorting/organizing, and re-housing the Whims. This happened after we took everything out of the shelves to clean those up, and I found myself with nothing to do. Trying to stay busy, I went to the table covered with stacks of Whims and started to organize them by year. At first, the Whims were interesting, but we kept finding them in other boxes, and various locations. When I thought I was done with a certain year, we found more and had to add those. I did end up getting help from Caitlin, especially when we inventoried the Whims. There were so many Whims in the end that we gave them its own inventory tab in our spreadsheet. Caitlin and I inputted them by year and month, then we commented on their condition. There were some very poor copies that were falling a part or had pages stuck together, we had to toss these. Finally, we sorted them into different zones. We had duplicates go to the zone for people to handle, then a backup zone, and most importantly, a preservation zone. It was such a relief when we finally finished the Whims.
